A British tourist ‘Graham’ wanted in connection with an assault on a Phuket tuk-tuk driver, has been arrested on Koh Phi Phi. It’s understood the assault was the result of a fare dispute (as graphically depicted in the VIDEO.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, April 27, when two tourists hired a tuk-tuk to travel from Patong to their hotel in Karon. The 26 year old driver says they agreed a fare of 400 baht, but on arrival at their destination, one of the passengers handed over just 100 baht.
For his part, the passenger insists he gave the driver 1,000 baht and asked him for change. An argument then broke out, culminating in the tourist slapping the driver in the face, then grabbing him by the neck and squeezing his throat.
The entire thing was captured on the tuk tuk driver’s video camera. The driver, who was slightly injured in the altercation, drove off but subsequently reported the incident to Karon Police.
The authorities then went to the suspect’s hotel but were told he had checked out and gone to Krabi province. A warrant was then issued for his arrest and officers tracked him down to a hotel on Phi Phi Island, where he was arrested on Tuesday morning, April 30.
The suspect, who has been named as 31-year-old Luke Alexander Graham, was taken to Karon police station, then transferred to a Phuket court for legal proceedings. He remains in custody.
