A construction crane has collapsed onto a trailer truck at an under-construction area of a new Robinson brand ‘Lifestyle’ Centre in Chalong. The Chalong Police were alerted to the incident at approximately 1:45pm yesterday, September 13, as reported by The Phuket Express.
When they arrived, authorities discovered the crane crashed into the trailer truck and crushing it. Emergency services provided immediate efforts to provide assistance to those involved.
The crane truck driver, identified only as Mr. Chai, told Chalong police that he was operating the crane when it suddenly “lost control”, leading to its disastrous fall onto the trailer truck. Mr. Chai acknowledged “his recklessness” as a contributing factor in the incident.
Inside the trailer truck was “Ms. Si”, the wife of the truck driver. Remarkably, she sustained only minor injuries despite the crushing of the cabin where she was sitting. The identity of the trailer truck driver remains undisclosed, as he was reportedly outside the vehicle when the crane collapsed.
Mr. Chai and Ms. Si attribute their “fortunate escape” from serious harm to a religious amulet she was wearing around her neck.
Authorities have confirmed that despite the incident, the new shopping centre remains on track to opening later this month, with the grand opening scheduled for September 20.
It remains unclear whether Mr. Chai will face legal charges in connection with the accident at this stage. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident to determine liability and any potential legal consequences.
