A young man has died after the speeding car he was driving smashed into a parked pickup truck, then a motorbike, and finally a power pole. The accident happened in the northern Phuket district of Thalang at around 6 am yesterday, Wednesday, January 10.
The Phuket Express reports that 28 year old Jinnawat Thaworn from Phang Nga was behind the wheel of a speeding sedan heading north through the sub-district of Srisoontorn, on the island’s main Thep Krasattri Road. The accident happened near the Bang Chak gas station, killing Jinnawat instantly.
Thalang Police and emergency workers arrived to find a severely damaged black MG4 sedan lodged in a power pole, with the driver dead inside. A damaged pickup truck with its hazard lights flashing was at the side of the road. The driver, named as 45 year old Darunee Korsai, had sustained minor injuries.
Nearby was a damaged motorbike in the middle of the road. The driver of the bike has been named as 50 year old Wichot Ruengsombat, who was also fortunate to sustain only minor injuries. Both Wichot and Darunee were taken to a nearby hospital.
According to Ms Darunee, she had parked and put her hazard lights on as she was sitting in her truck while waiting for some food being cooked by a roadside vendor.
It’s understood that CCTV footage of the area shows the car being driven at high speed before it crashes into Ms Darunee’s truck. The driver then appears to lose control, ploughing into a motorbike, before finally coming to a stop after crashing into a power pole.
