Four people have sustained minor injuries after a Phuket minivan driver, reportedly “high on methamphetamines”, crashed into several cars and motorbikes. The Phuket Express reports that the minivan crashed into 5 cars and 4 motorbikes. The driver then tried to flee the scene, on Patak Road in Karon, but crashed his minivan into a power pole instead.
Karon Police were notified at around 6.30pm last Tuesday, January 30, and arrived at the scene to find 5 damaged cars and 4 damaged motorbikes, along with 4 injured people.
The minivan driver was subsequently stopped by police in front of a nearby hotel and was named as 30 year old Russalan Jitlang. Police found a methamphetamine pill inside the minivan and when questioned, the driver admitted to having taken a meth pill earlier that morning.
The incident happened after he had dropped off his passengers at their hotel. He then crashed into another vehicle and when trying to speed away, drove into another.
He has been taken to Karon Police Station to be charged with possession of a Category 1 narcotic and driving while under the influence of drugs. Officials from the Phuket Land Transport Office have not confirmed if the driver will face any further action from their side.
