A drunk man who terrified residents by firing gunshots at night in Thalang, north Phuket, has been arrested. The Phuket Express reports that the man, named only as Mr Muan, was arrested in the sub-district of Sri Soontorn on Sunday night, July 9.

According to Pisit Chuenpeth of Thalang Police, at around 10.20pm, officers were informed of an intoxicated man scaring both Thai and foreign residents by firing gunshots in Village 3.

As police arrived at the scene, the suspect was leaving the housing estate in his truck. Officers stopped the truck and found a registered CZ .22 rifle and 55 bullets.

The Phuket Express reports that police found a foreign female resident in tears as she asked police to take her child somewhere safer, explaining that she lived next door to the suspect and was scared of repeat incidents.

Mr Muan was taken to Thalang Police Station, where he reportedly told Piset that his neighbours had annoyed him by leaving rubbish by the wall next to his house. He admits he fired four shots into the air and threw rocks at nearby houses because he was angry. He faces charges of carrying a gun in public without reason and driving while intoxicated.
