Five people have been rescued off the coast of Phuket after their speedboat started taking on water this week. At the time, the boat was off the coast of Koh Mai Thon, south of Phuket, according to a Phuket Express report.
Phuket Marine Police were notified of the incident by Wichit Police on the evening of Wednesday, August 23. It’s understood the people on the boat were fishing at the time.
The marine police travelled to the location sent by the boat captain, which was on the east side of Mai Thon Island. However, the water in the area was too shallow to allow the larger police vessel to get closer to the speedboat.
The authorities then made contact with a local fishing boat that was nearby and the marine police provided the boat with a water pump. The pump was then used to remove water from the speedboat and its five occupants were transported back to Koh Mai Thon, from where they were later transferred to Chalong.
The police have not provided the names of those rescued.
