Follow up to recent thefts of foreigners in Phuket

Some recent updates regarding thefts in Phuket over the past week.

  1. Colombian Snatch Thief Captured in Patong.
    • Patong police successfully apprehended a Colombian snatch thief on January 13.
    • The incident occurred at 11:45 pm on January 12 when a 35 year old Russian tourist was targeted on Soi Suk Charoen in Patong.
    • The thief, whose identity is undisclosed, snatched the Russian tourist’s belongings, including a shoulder bag, Airpods, driving license, cash, and accessories, while riding a motorbike.
    • The suspect was traced to a cannabis shop in Patong, where the stolen items were recovered.
    • Charges were pressed for using a vehicle in the commission of a crime, and the suspect was escorted to the Patong police station for further legal proceedings.
    • The suspect is currently in custody.
  2. Burmese Cleaner Arrested for Hotel Thefts.
    • Patong police arrested a 27-year-old Burmese cleaner, Hla Hla Win, on charges of theft from two Cyprus nationals and a Swedish tourist at a Patong hotel.
    • The thefts amounted to approximately 140,000 baht in total.
    • The arrest followed reports from two male Cyprus tourists and a male Swedish tourist who had their money stolen from rooms at an unidentified hotel on Sirirat Road in Patong.
    • The stolen items, including six gold items, were seized from the suspect.
    • Hla Hla Win admitted to the thefts and using the stolen money to purchase gold items.
    • The suspect is currently in custody.
  3. Housekeeper Arrested for Theft from French Tourist.
    • A housekeeper was arrested after stealing 90,000 baht from a 50 year old French man at an apartment in Patong.
    • The French man reported the incident to Patong police, stating that he had rented an apartment on Na Nai Road on November 27, 2023, and discovered the theft the following Tuesday.
    • The housekeeper, whose identity was not disclosed, admitted to stealing the money and using it to buy luxury items.
    • The suspect was taken to the Patong Police Station to face theft charges and remains in custody.
