Foreign tourist caught breaking police lock on his motorbike

Here’s a tip: if police place a lock on your motorbike because you’ve parked it illegally, don’t try to break the lock yourself.

A foreign tourist got himself into hot water for trying to do just that in Phuket. Unfortunately for him, his efforts were captured on film, the footage was posted on social media, and yes, you guessed it…

The video quickly took off, attracting widespread attention from netizens, many of whom criticised the man’s actions.

According to Phuket Police, the incident happened around 5.30pm on January 23, although they did not specify where it happened. Police were notified by a “concerned citizen”, but were busy trying to manage rush hour traffic (definitely a bigger problem in Phuket) and unable to respond immediately.

However, the authorities did track the tourist down later on and he presented himself to police the following day, January 24. According to a Phuket News report, the man was fined for the incident and has apologised, saying he won’t do it again.

The police issued a reminder to all road users that they must obey traffic laws, including not parking in prohibited areas, or they risk being fined.
