A Belgian man has died after shooting himself in the head at a shooting range in Rawai, on the southern coast of Phuket. The Phuket Express reports that the man died yesterday afternoon at an unnamed shooting range in Saiyuan.
Chalong Police were notified and arrived on the scene with rescue workers, to find the body of the 52 year old man, who has been named only as Mr Christ, from Belgium. His full name is being withheld until his embassy and next-of-kin have been informed. A handgun was found next to the dead man, who had a single bullet wound to his head.
According to workers at the shooting range, the man had paid the normal fee, saying he wanted to practice his shooting skills. He had fired a single shot at the target, then turned the gun on himself. Staffers say his actions were too quick for them to intervene.
It’s understood the man was an expat who lived on the island, with police confirming he had a Thai motorbike licence and other local paperwork.
The incident is not the first where a customer turns the weapon onto themselves and pulls the trigger.
