A gunman who went on the run in Surat Thani, and who was wanted in connection with 2 murders, has been arrested in Phuket.
The suspect, named as 32 year old Thanya “Bom”, was apprehended at a department store in the sub-district of Wichit, in Phuket Town. The Phuket Express reports that he was wanted for murder, illegal possession of guns and ammunition, and carrying a firearm in public without permission.
Officers from the Central Investigation Bureau arrested the fugitive on Sunday, March 24, under a warrant issued by Surat Thani Provincial Court the day before. His arrest relates to a fatal shooting that took place in the Don Sak district of Surat Thani on Friday, March 22.
According to the report, Don Sak Police say the shooting, which took place 200 metres from the police station, was related to a dispute between drug dealers. They have identified Thanya as the shooter.
The suspect was previously accused of involvement in the 2022 killing of a prominent businesswoman in Surat Thani. He is accused of committing the second, more recent, murder while out on bail during his trial.
The authorities were acting on a tip-off when they tracked the suspect to Phuket and apprehended him. He has now been taken to Don Sak Police Station while police investigate his alleged criminal activities further. Thanya denies all the charges.
