An Israeli man has been arrested after a worker at a currency exchange booth accused him of attempted robbery. The Phuket Express reports that the incident occurred on December 31, just after midnight, at a currency exchange booth on Patong’s Phra Baramee Road.
An unnamed woman working at the booth told Patong Police that a man who had his face covered approached her and grabbed her neck with both his hands. She screamed and fought back, with the man eventually fleeing empty-handed.
On Monday, January 22, investigating officers arrested the suspect, an unnamed 26 year old Israeli national, who was taken to Patong Police Station for questioning.
While questioning the man, officers discovered that he had also overstayed his visa. He faces charges of night theft, bodily assault causing harm to another’s body and mind, as well as the overstay charge.
According to the report, the suspect has admitted attempted robbery but denies attacking the woman. He also denies the charge of night theft, pointing out that nothing was stolen.
