Police in Phuket have arrested a man who stabbed his ex-girlfriend to death in front of a motorbike shop in Kathu. According to a Phuket Express report, the incident occurred yesterday, August 28, in the Kathu area.

Witnesses told police that the victim was stabbed in front of a row of shops along Wichit Songkram Road. Kathu Police were notified and arrived on the scene with paramedics.

The woman, who has been named only as 30 year old Ms Wimon from the northern province of Phetchabun, was lying on the ground, bleeding heavily from multiple stab wounds. She was rushed to hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Her ex-boyfriend, identified as 32 year old Mr Paytai, also from Phetchabun, was arrested. He had slash wounds on his hand and arresting officers seized a 25 centimetre knife that was allegedly used as the weapon. He was taken to Kathu Police Station to be charged.

According to the suspect’s testimony, he was trying to rebuild his relationship with Ms Wimon, but she was not interested and tried to walk away from him. He followed her and a verbal dispute heated up, which then became physical, ending in Paytai stabbing the woman multiple times.

Kathu Police say they are now working to determine if the murder was premeditated, before deciding what charges Paytai will face. He remains in police custody.
