A man wanted for allegedly raping a 12 year old child in the southern province of Phatthalung has been arrested on Phuket. The Phuket Express reports that the suspect, named only as “Mr Somkiet”, was arrested by officers from the Crime Suppression Division at a house in the north-eastern sub-district of Pa Khlok.
He is accused of raping a child under the age of 13, trespassing, and using methamphetamine.
The man was wanted in connection with an incident in March 2018, when he allegedly raped a 12 year old girl at her home. According to the report, the child was known to the man, who entered her home while her parents were out. It’s alleged he then raped the girl, whose father subsequently returned to the house and confronted Somkiet.
After the father filed a police report, Somkiet was arrested, but requested bail during his court hearing. When bail was granted, the suspect disappeared. It’s now understood he went into hiding in Phuket, where he remained for 5 years, until his arrest.
He remains in police custody.
