A Phuket man trying to boil up his own herbal remedy has inadvertently set his house on fire, after leaving the concoction unattended. The Phuket News reports that the blaze took hold at the home in Wichit yesterday, December 25.
It’s understood the homeowner was boiling a herbal remedy that had Vaseline as one of the ingredients. He left the mixture unattended on a gas stove in the kitchen, which was behind the house. The concoction then caught fire, which quickly got out of control.
The man tried to use a wet cloth to put the fire out, but was unsuccessful. As the blaze spread rapidly, he called the emergency services. Firefighters and Wichit Police arrived on the scene at the Phuket Villa 3 housing estate at around 12.50pm.
The fire was still going, with smoke wafting towards neighbouring homes. It took firefighters around 20 minutes to extinguish the blaze. No injuries were reported but it’s understood the fire caused an estimated 300,000 baht worth of damages.
That’s one expensive herbal remedy.
Police have launched an investigation to formally confirm the cause of the blaze.
