Phuket motorbike taxi driver apologises to foreigner

A Patong motorbike taxi driver has apologised to his foreign passenger after a dispute over the fare went viral. The Phuket Express reports that the unnamed foreign man booked the motorbike taxi through the Grab app, which confirmed a fare of 56 baht. However, on arrival at the destination, the driver demanded 100 baht, saying the fare confirmed by the app was too low.

It’s understood the passenger refused to pay more than the price he’d been quoted, at which point the driver lost his temper and allegedly kicked the fence of a nearby property. He then gave the passenger the middle finger before driving off.

Unfortunately for him, the incident was captured on film and quickly went viral on social media, as these things have a habit of doing. The driver, who was identified as Jamnong Salee, subsequently presented himself at Patong Police Station, where he told police he’d lost his temper.

His passenger was also present at the station, having gone there to file a police report. The driver apologised to the foreign man and has agreed to pay the fence owner 1,000 baht for the damage he caused. All in all, an expensive day’s work.
