Thirty Chinese nationals have been arrested after they were found to be working illegally at a Phuket construction site. The arrests happened following an inspection of a construction site in the northern district of Thalang on Tuesday, December 19.
The Phuket Express reports that officers from the Phuket Tourist Police and Thalang Police accompanied the Phuket Employment Office to the site, located in the sub-district of Thep Krasattri.
Initially, 12 Chinese nationals were arrested on site, while another 18 managed to flee. However, it’s understood that they too were captured. The men say they were hired by a Chinese supervisor and were paid between 1,500 and 3,000 baht a day.
The 30 workers have been taken to Thalang Police Station for legal processing. The authorities have withheld the name of the construction company and the site in question.
