A Ukrainian man has been arrested in Phuket after it was discovered that he was working illegally as a tour guide.

The Phuket Express reports that a 35 year old Ukrainian national was found working as a tour guide at an elephant camp on Wiset Road in Rawai, at the southern end of the island.

It’s understood the Ukrainian was working as a tour guide for Russian tourists. He has been taken to Chalong Police Station to be charged with working in the kingdom illegally and carrying out a protected job.

In Thailand, it is illegal for foreign nationals to work as tour guides, a profession that is reserved for Thai nationals (but many do).
