A Thai man has now been charged with molesting a Russian woman in a Phuket bus station toilet. The 26 year old suspect, named only as Peerayuth, is originally from the southern province of Trang.
It’s understood he previously worked as a bus conductor on the Phuket-Betong route and in the past, was accused of bullying and threatening others, annoying people in public and making them feel uncomfortable.
The latest incident happened in the very early hours of January 31 at the Phuket Bus Terminal No. 2, in the sub-district of Rassada. It’s understood a female Russian tourist entered the women’s toilet at the station at around 3.30am.
CCTV footage and eyewitness reports confirm that a shirtless man then came out of the men’s toilet and followed the tourist into the women’s toilet. Screams were then heard from the toilet, with a monk who was in the station at the time running to the woman’s aid.
At this point, the man came out of the women’s toilet and can be seen repeatedly performing a “wai” in front of the monk, in an attempt to apologise. The Russian woman then emerged and boarded a bus to Surat Thani.
Police have since tracked the tourist down but it’s understood she’s not interested in pressing charges, saying she just wants to enjoy her holiday. Despite this, Phuket City Police have decided to press ahead with charges after reviewing CCTV footage and speaking to witnesses.
