Phuket police fine man for driving car along Kamala Beach – VIDEO

Kamala Police have fined a driver for driving his car onto the beach, the second such incident in a month. And this time it was a Thai driver, not a foreigner.

Police chief Somsak Thongkleang has confirmed the driver was fined 1,000 baht after video footage of him driving on the beach went viral on social media.

There had been some speculation among netizens that the driver was a foreign tourist in a rental car, with some commenting that no Thai person would risk damaging their vehicle in this way. However, the authorities have confirmed the driver was Thai.

He has been named as 39 year old Mr Prasopchock, the owner of a Bangkok convenience store. His rationale for driving on the beach was that he didn’t know it was against the law and he wanted to get his children as close to the sea as possible.
