Two luxury villas on the southeast coast of Phuket have been raided as part of a major investigation into illegal online gambling. Part of the investigation showed that the backend of the ‘UFA online gambling network’ had a daily credit inflow of over 72 billion baht (some 2 billion USD) from international websites!
The Phuket Express reports that officers from the Department of Special Investigations in Bangkok raided the villas, in the southern district of Rawai, yesterday afternoon, November 22.
It’s understood the villas are situated on the Nai Harn Beach – Saen Bay road. The raid was carried out after the Phuket Provincial Court issued a search warrant in response to a request from the DSI. At the time of the raid, only housekeepers and other staff were at the properties.
According to the report, the villas are connected to a suspect who is already in custody and named only as 29 year old Mr Pakpoom, aka Dee Dee. Pakpoom was arrested at Suvarnabhumi International Airport on November 4.
He allegedly has connections to an illegal gambling website, considered one of the top 3 such sites in Thailand, and to other online gambling networks, some of which have already been shut down.
Pakpoom is accused of running illegal online gambling services and money laundering. He denies all the charges against him.
