If you’re on the island, you don’t need to be told that it’s throbbing with tourists.
The Phuket office of the Tourism Authority of Thailand says the island has welcomed over 265,000 visitors over the end-of-year holiday period. According to Lertchai Wangtrakuldee, TAT Phuket director, this has potentially generated revenue of over 8 billion baht.
The Phuket News reports that Phuket International Airport welcomed over 600 flights in the four-day period from December 29 to January 1. A total of 63,836 foreign arrivals, an average of 15,959 a day, landed on 333 inbound flights (around 83 flights a day).
The airport also handled 271 domestic flights, an average of 68 a day, carrying 36,026 domestic tourists, or an average of 9,006 a day. The island’s hotels and other accommodation saw an average occupancy rate of 81.69%, with visitors staying an average of 3.62 days.
According to Lertchai, there was a total of 265,835 visitors to the island over the four-day holiday period, generating 8.348 billion baht in tourism revenue.
