There are reports that one of 32 gamblers arrested during a raid on a Phuket gambling den was, in fact, a police inspector.

The Bangkok Post reports that the raid took place in the city area of Phuket Town at around 1am on Friday, April 5. Officers arrived at the premises located on the second floor of a commercial building on Chanacharoen Road, in the sub-district of Talad Yai.

According to the report, some people tried to flee when they saw the officers but were prevented from doing so. There are unconfirmed reports that one of them is a police inspector with Provincial Police Region 8.

In total, 32 gamblers, both men and women, were arrested, with the authorities also seizing gambling equipment and 1,700 baht in cash. All suspects were taken to the Police Station to face charges.

According to Prathueng Phonmana, the local police chief, the raid was the result of an investigation into illegal gambling at the facility. He says officers are investigating claims that one of those arrested is a police inspector.
