The Thai government has bestowed a royal honour on two Russian brothers, in recognition of their charitable work in Phuket. Nation Thailand reports that Igor and Alexey Protasov have received the Most Admirable Order of the Direkgunabhorn for their “commitment to improving the lives of disadvantaged people in Phuket”.
According to the report, both brothers have lived on the island since 2010, with Igor holding the role of CEO of major real estate firm, the Thai Business Development Company Group. The Protasovs have also been executives of the Lions Club of Phuket Pearl for the last 8 years, with Igor in the role of president and Alexey as company secretary.
Many on the island will be familiar with the Lions Club, which works with disadvantaged members of the community, including orphans and people living with illnesses such as cancer and mental health conditions such as autism. The charity helps provide hospitals with medical supplies and also awards scholarships to deserving students.
The report goes on to say that the Protasov brothers have also worked as volunteers with the Phuket tourist police, acting as interpreters for expats and foreign tourists. They have also volunteered as interpreters for tourists being treated at hospital and during court cases involving foreigners.
