Russian arrested for brandishing a sword at Muay Thai street in Phuket

Police in Chalong, in the south of Phuket, have arrested a Russian man who was seen wandering around a Thai boxing complex brandishing a sword (also reported as a knife in some Thai media). The Phuket Express reports that police were notified of the incident at around 4.30pm yesterday, December 18.

They arrived at the scene outside a Thai boxing complex on Soi Ta-iad to find a foreign man walking along the road while holding a sword. Officers were able to detain the 23 year old unnamed Russian without anyone being injured.

According to the report, police say the man is known to have “mental health issues” which were affecting his behaviour at the time of the incident.

It’s not known if he will face any legal charges or be deported over the incident. Police say they will be seeking psychiatric assistance for the man.
