A Russian man has died and his wife has been injured in a motorbike crash in Karon.
According to a Phuket Express report, the accident happened yesterday morning, April 17, when the man lost control of the motorbike while navigating a bend in the road. It’s alleged he had consumed alcohol prior to getting on the bike.
The dead man has been named as 40 year old Pavel Uriadova. His death is the first recorded death of the Seven Days Road Safety Campaign being run over the Songkran holiday (which finishes today). His wife, who sustained minor injuries, has been named as 41 year old Anna Uriadova.
Karon Police were notified of the accident on Patak Road at around 6am. Emergency workers arrived at the scene to find the bike in a ditch and Mr Uriadova’s body lying nearby.
His wife told officers that her husband had been drinking at their accommodation before they got on the bike to travel to the Big Buddha on Narkerd Hill. CCTV footage of the area shows that the driver lost control while on a bend in the road.
