Suspect arrested over shooting of Russian man at Boat Avenue

Following the shooting of a 44 year old Russian man yesterday at Boat Avenue in Cherng Talay, a Kazakh man has been arrested by Phuket police for his alleged involvement.

The suspect, known as Artur Legay, was taken into custody by immigration police at Phuket International Airport this morning, following extensive efforts to locate him.

Preliminary questioning of the suspect revealed that he had checked into a hotel in Cherng Talay before yesterday’s shooting. Authorities are currently conducting further investigations to uncover more details about the motive behind the attack and any possible accomplices.

The incident occurred around 11:45 on Wednesday morning when the Phuket 191 emergency response centre received a distress call reporting a shooting in front of Anise Tapas Bar & Bistro, located at the entrance to Boot Avenue. Police and emergency responders swiftly arrived at the scene to provide assistance (the Cherng Talay police station is less than 1 kilometre away).

Eyewitnesses and CCTV cameras show a pale blue Chinese EV pulled up in front of the café, and a masked man, previously seen riding a Honda PCX motorcycle, approaching the car. Without warning, the assailant fired four shots at the occupant through the windshield before swiftly escaping on his motorcycle.

The victim, identified as Dmitry Aleynikov, a 44 year old Russian national, suffered gunshot wounds to his chest, right armpit, and left arm. Rescuers, responding promptly to the scene, carefully extracted the injured and unconscious man from the vehicle and took him to Thalang Hospital for immediate medical attention.
