The island, as always, has bounced back with a surge of tourists for the 2023/2024 high season.
Phuket is currently welcoming an average of 40,000 arrivals a day, according to data from the island’s airport. That’s close to levels to the high season arrivals back in 2018/2019. The 40,000 figure includes arrivals at both the domestic and international terminal.
Phuket Tourism and Sports chief Ratchadaphon Oin says that so far this year, the island has welcomed 9 million visitors. There was a surge in domestic and foreign tourists over the recent long weekend between December 9 and 11, when the Patong Carnival took place.
Ratchadaphon adds that the Old Town area is also seeing an uptick in tourism as a result of attractions such as the shopping opportunities on Thalang Road, Soi Rommanee, and the new Chartered Intersection, location of a new Walking Street market.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand recently stated that it expects the kingdom to exceed its target of 27 million foreign arrivals this year, although it will fall some 400 billion baht short of its 1.6-trillion baht revenue target.
