A Phuket tuk-tuk driver has been arrested, after police found him in possession of methamphetamine pills (aka “yaba”) and several weapons, including an axe.
The Phuket News reports that the driver, named only as 30 year old Mr Adisak, was detained at a police checkpoint in front of Patong Hospital just before midnight on Monday, October 16.
The report goes on to say that the tuk-tuk driver also goes by the nickname “Phase” and was arrested as part of a mass search operation of tuk-tuks and other “public transport vehicles”, according to Patong Police.
Wanit Anantaphong of Patong Traffic Police led the search, which found Adisak in possession of 43 yaba pills, 3 iron bars and an axe. However, there has been no further information from the authorities in relation to the arrest or charges being brought.
The police did not confirm if Adisak was tested for drugs, nor did they say if the Phuket Land Transport Office would be informed of the arrest. The PLTO is responsible for regulating all public transport vehicles on the island and issuing licences to drivers.
