A female motorbike rider has been killed after the driver of a pickup truck lost control of his vehicle in Phuket. The Phuket News reports that the incident happened yesterday morning, December 19, outside the Princess Seaview Resort & Spa in Karon.

Karon Police were notified of the incident on Patak Road at around 8.40am. They arrived at the scene with rescue workers from the Kusoldharm Foundation. There they found a heavily damaged Isuzu pickup truck at the side of the road.

Nearby was a red Honda PCX motorbike, also heavily damaged, lying on its side. The body of the driver, who has been named as Orasa Quesquiere, was still pinned under the pickup truck.

The truck driver, named as Phonphrom Phadlek, only sustained minor injuries. He told police at the scene that he was driving from the Pullman Hotel when he lost control of his vehicle, which span out of control before striking Ms Orasa on her motorbike.

Phonphrom was taken for blood alcohol testing but the result has not been confirmed by police. He was then transported to Karon Police Station to be charged with reckless driving causing death.

Ms Orasa’s body was taken to Vachira Phuket Hospital.
