A Thai woman has filed a police report against her Austrian husband, claiming he physically assaulted her. The 53 year old woman, named only as Ms Neng, filed her report at Nongprue Police Station in Chon Buri on Wednesday, March 27.
According to a Khaosod English report, the woman was forced to seek refuge in a temple after being beaten by her husband. Ms Neng says it’s not the first time her husband has attacked her, but the violence is becoming more severe.
In December of last year, she was hospitalised after her husband allegedly broke her arm. While she was in hospital, she says he did not visit her and the abuse continued on her return home.
Once home, Ms Neng had to continue doing the housework and caring for her husband, despite the fact that her arm had not yet healed. If she tried to rest, she says her husband would shout at her. Eventually she fled to her home province of Surin, in northeast Thailand.
According to the report, she returned to Chon Buri on March 10 after her husband begged her to forgive him. However, she was no sooner back at their shared home than he began beating her again. On one occasion, it’s alleged he hit her ear so hard, she lost her hearing.
At that point, she fled the house and sought refuge in a temple. Phra Khru Samuwirach Jareonphon, acting abbot at the temple contacted the media for help and Ms Neng was taken to the Government House Complaint Centre for assistance.
It’s understood the couple met while Ms Neng was working as a housekeeper. They have been living together for 5 years, but the woman claims her husband drinks heavily and then becomes violent. She says he has been beating her for the last 5 years but she has put up with it as she loves him.
