An employee of the Hat Noppharat Thara Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park is in hospital after being shot by a colleague at Krabi’s Phi Phi islands, as reported yesterday in Phuket-GO.

The Phuket Express reports that the two men had worked together for some time but were “known to argue frequently”. According to national park chief Yutthapong Damsrisuk, the latest fight occurred on January 2, culminating in one of the men shooting the other.

It’s understood the shooting occurred at the national park station, where the men had been employed by the Maya Bay tourism service over a year. Both men have now been fired.

Yutthapong says the shooting occurred at a time when there were not many tourists around and as it took place inside the national park station area, the tourists who were on the island were not affected. Maya Bay is the busiest part of the Phi Phi Islands national park.

Police and national park officials have now launched an investigation and plan to interview both men, neither of whom has been named.
