A 55 year old Russian man has drowned while snorkelling off the popular Monkey Beach on Krabi’s main island of Koh Phi Phi Don. According to a Phuket Express report, the tourist had travelled to the Phi Phi islands on a guided tour out of Phuket. The man joined a tour group for snorkelling at Monkey Beach and was found dead in the water sometime after.

Officials, who have not released the man’s name until his next-of-kin have been informed, believe the man drowned. His body has been taken to a hospital in Krabi, where an autopsy is being carried out, and the Russian Embassy has been informed.

This latest incident follows another tourist drowning earlier this month, when a Taiwanese man drowned while snorkelling near Krabi’s Koh Hong.
