Car drives onto Kamala beach (again)

Residents in the Kamala Beach area have been angered by a driver who drove a car onto the beach. It’s the second time a car has been driven onto the beach in the space of a month. Last month, a tourist abandoned a Jeep on Kamala Beach after it got stuck in the sand.

There have been reports in social media of other cars on other Phuket beaches as well.

The Phuket News reports that yesterday, April 1, a black sedan (Toyota?) was driven onto the same beach. Video footage of the incident was shared online, drawing criticism from locals.

In the clip, the car is driven onto the sand, including onto wet sand near the water’s edge. At one point, a lifeguard is seen approaching the car and telling the driver to leave, but he is ignored.

Netizens criticised the driver, with some saying it must be a tourist in a rental car as no local person would risk damaging their own car with saltwater.

The authorities have not commented on the story, which comes less than a month after police were called to the same beach when a tourist abandoned a Jeep on wet sand as the tide came in. The vehicle was safely removed before the water reached it.
