Police in Phuket have arrested a truck driver in connection with a hit-and-run incident in north Phuket, which killed an American man, Gregory Ludwig, last week.

According to a Khaosod English report, 32 year old Ritthikrai Chumthong, originally from the southern province of Surat Thani, has been charged with careless driving causing death and damage to another person’s vehicle, and leaving the scene of an accident without helping.

The incident happened on Thep Kasattri Road as both vehicles were travelling parallel to each other. The victim, 60 year old Gregory Ludwig, was on a Suzuki motorbike, having just left the hotel where he worked as recreation director.

As the truck reached a turning at the entrance to Soi Luan In, Village No. 1, in the sub-district of Mai Khao, it changed lanes, turning left. This caused it to collide with Mr Ludwig’s motorbike, knocking him off the bike. The truck then drove over his head, killing him, before fleeing the scene.
