Immigration police have confirmed that a Russian man arrested on arrival at Phuket Airport is accused of hiring a gunman to shoot another Russian.
The failed murder attempt took place in the Boat Avenue shopping area in north Phuket on June 7 of this year.
A Russian businessman, named only as “Mr A” was sitting in his parked car when he was shot multiple times. He survived the shooting and a Kazakh man was subsequently charged with attempted murder. He denies the charges.
Phuket Immigration chief Itthiphon Itthisarnronnachai says a Russian national was arrested at the airport on arrival from Moscow on Monday, December 25. He has been named only as 53 year old Mr Alexander and is accused of hiring the Kazakh gunman to kill the victim.
Mr Alexander was detained when the airport’s immigration system showed a warrant had been issued for his arrest. According to a Phuket Express report, the suspect has yet to enter a plea and remains in police custody. It is not known if he has hired a lawyer.
